Application of the Spectrum of Needs
Are you a project manager and want to better recognize the different needs of people in your work with teams?
The Spectrum of Needs will support you.
-
Clear
The Spectrum of Needs serves to provide a clear picture of what a need is - and to enable needs to be clearly named in communication. When creating the model, care was taken not to include any feelings, characteristics, activities or strategies that serve to satisfy a need - but are not a need.
-
Quick
As it is important not to lose any time in projects, the model also serves to quickly identify the needs that should be considered in each case. In a conflict, the aim is to find those needs that are offended or hurt. When considering how to motivate someone, it is useful to know the strong needs in order to know where to start.
-
Universal
The set of needs is the same for all people. The needs differ only in the degree to which they are expressed. With a little openness, all people, regardless of age, culture, etc., can share their needs.
Your needs
have a profile
If you want to know more precisely what is important to you and what your needs are, you can quickly find out with the help of a simple tool.
Take a look at your needs.
A simple tool will help you. Create a profile of your needs now with the help of a simple tool. This is how it works.
01 Create profile
The tool lists the needs contained in the Spectrum of Needs and lets you rate them on a scale of 1 to 5. When using the tool, don't necessarily think about how important the respective topic is to you "right now", but rather how important it is in your life in general. Please note: The question here is how important it is to you - not to what extent it currently satisfies you.
02 Analyze profile
In the analysis, you can ask yourself various questions and try to answer them. Which area is most pronounced? Which conflicts can you explain? What do you need to motivate yourself? Which areas and needs are already in conflict? How do others see it?
03 Working with the profile
The respective needs profile can be used in different ways. If you are working with another person, e.g. someone you are managing or coaching, they can create a profile and reflect on it with you. It is also possible to create your own profile and use it to further develop your own personality.
